Are the citizens in LaPlata the only residents who deserve this type of system, don’t the citizens of Waldorf, Indian Head, Bryan’s Road, Potomac Heights, Cobb Island and every other citizen in between deserve the same type of Emergency Notification System?
LaPlata isn’t the only location in Charles County that is in danger of a Tornado strike, or some other type of disaster where an EWS could save lives, and please don’t tell me that we who live outside of LaPlata will be notified via T.V. or some other type of Public Addressing System.

He’s listed as the resident agent of the C&K LLC. I realize he’s an attorney and likely has many, many clients, but given how often his name has come up of late with respect to development issues in the county my interest was piqued. The Principal Office of the LLC is basically on the other side of the road at 8880 Mitchell Rd, which is that big house that sits basically adjacent to the old Mitchell Farm, now part of CSM. When I had family in Mt. Carmel Estates, I thought someone told me ‘a Baldus’ lived there. I don’t know.

I post this out of idle curiosity only. My understanding is that development was mostly done in that area, ie, all remaining land was owned by folks that had no interest in selling for further development. Maybe someone has more info.
]]>The Charles County Chamber of Commerce provides leadership in supporting and promoting the free enterprise system through business development, education, and sound ethical values for the benefit of our members and our communities.
I don’t know any members of the CC Chamber of Commerce, and I’m curious. Do they live up to their Mission Statement? Are they a real help to the business community? Networking, yes, but is there any more to it than that? Why was Ken Gould fired? Is the Chamber being driven by those wanting to steer the county back into the past? Can a business afford to be a member of the Chamber if it’s back to the past? Is the Business Alliance of Charles County more progressive than the Chamber? What’s the difference?
I figure if anyone knows anything about the CCCC it would be those on the DD.
The Sixth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States and our Bill of Rights sets the ground work for criminal prosecution. The Sixth Amendment requires juries to be impartial. Impartiality has been interpreted as requiring individual jurors to be unbiased. At voir dire, each side may question potential jurors to determine any bias, and challenge them if the same is found; the court determines the validity of these challenges for cause. Defendants may not challenge a conviction because a challenge for cause was denied incorrectly if they had the opportunity to use peremptory challenges.
Sherriff Coffey crossed that fine line the night he made the remarks to the Pincefield Civic association meeting, trying to influence public opinion to convict, based upon the premise “We would not have arrested them if they were not guilty.”
Sherriff Coffey took an oath to uphold the laws of this land, to protect the Constitution of the United States of America, Sheriff Coffey gave in to the pressures of his office, which has swayed his opinion of the rights and wrongs of our society.
No matter how we feel as a population, the innocents or guilt of a party does not rest upon the shoulders of the police force, but with the people, the peers of society, this amendment by its self sets America apart from all other nations.
Charles County is changing, society is changing, the juror is changing, the requirements set forth for convictions is more demanding now. Too many innocent people have been proven innocent through DNA and the advances of science. When the convection rate does not go your way, do not blame society, do not ask our citizens to give up their basic rights and find people guilty just because you arrested them.
Sheriff Coffey, I supported your election and your re-election, however, something has happened, something misfired, with your remarks we might as well bring back the lynching tree, for that is what it represents, what you said, and what you feel, truly makes me weary of your ability to continue in your current position, as Sheriff of Charles County Maryland. I implore the citizens of this county to request you retire with some sort of dignity, or cast a recall vote to remove you from office.

Michele Bachmann’s campaign chairman departs the Bachmann camp for the Paul camp:
Presidential candidate Michele Bachmann’s Iowa campaign chairman Kent Sorenson tonight endorsed Ron Paul, one of her rivals in the Iowa caucus race.
“I believe we’re at a turning point in this campaign,” Sorenson said during his surprise announcement this evening at a Ron Paul rally in Des Moines. “… I thought it was my duty to come to his aid, just like he came to my aid during my Senate race, which was a very nasty race.”
I believe I once read that Bachmann attended Paul’s Austrian Economics seminars before, so you’d think that they’d be more inline with one another on many issues. I think her theocratic tendencies and off-her-rocker foreign policy positions will do her in. I predict she’ll quit the race after Iowa.
