Which Party is Better For Stocks?

From this thread on Delusional Duck:
I would venture to say that most investors, especially those with substantial portfolios, are Republicans. After all, the GOP is the party that champions free markets, capital accumulation, and low taxes, principles that appeal to wealthy investors.

And historically, the initial reaction of the market to a Republican presidential victory confirms this thesis. During the last 120 years, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.7% on the day following a Republican victory in the presidential elections while it has fallen 0.5% the day after a Democrat captured the White House

However, a closer look tells a far different story. Over that same 120 year period, the average annual stock market return has totaled only 8.25% under Republican rule, while it has returned 10.85% with Democrats in power.

Over the past 60 years, this trend has been more pronounced. The Democrats have held the presidency only 41% of that time, but under their rule the average annual return has been 15.26%, more than six percentage points higher than the 9.01% return under Republicans.

It seems that a certain vol. fire chief in this county is upset that a few weeks back, one of his F/F’s who had sustained a minor injury at a fire had to wait in the ER at CIVISTA to be seen.

I’m told that the reason this chief is so mad, is because his F/F wasn’t fast tracked in front of all the other “Tax” paying citizens in our county that were there ahead of them first.

As a retired F/F, I can’t see why a F/F, or Police Officer should be put in line ahead of anyone else, unless it’s a life threatening situation, but then again, I hope any of us would be “Fast Tracked” in that situation.

Come on chief, don’t you all get enough perks from this county already.

The Democratic Party had the opportunity to make history by making Hillary Clinton the vice president for Barack Obama. It could have won the November election in a landmark landslide by having the first African-American and woman in the White House.
[...]
Biden’s nomination as vice president of the United States is the biggest insult that the Democrats have done since fighting the Civil War to keep their slaves.

Billingsley extension

Hi all,

Anyone know what is going on with the section of Billingsley to St Charles Pkwy and beyond? Why is this project taking so long?

I was on that road on Friday and the construction crews were removing all the exisitng curbing on the “to 301” side and replacing it with new.I am guessing that is an expensive replacment.

On the side that goes from 301, the left lane still disappears with out warning. The traffic light at St Charles Pkwy is still set to red flash mode.

The left lane and flashing traffic lights are major safety issues. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been cutoff by folks who don’t know the left lane just dissapears. I called the county on this weeks ago and was told it wasn’t their responsibility...that is was ACPT (?).

The intersection at St Charles Pkwy has 10 lanes of traffic coming into what is essentially a 4 way stop sign...this intersection is a nightmare to get thru...add in the reduced sightlines due to all the construction barrels and you have a tragedy waiting to happen.

Sixty One Days to Go! Republicans Wrap up Convention

After altering the schedule for their annual convention because of concerns over Hurricane Fay and the Gulf Coast states, the Republicans finished the process of nominating their candidate for president – Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). Once the speeches were done, the partisan rhetoric began to fly from both political parties. The next 61 days should play out to one of the most interesting presidential races in recent history.
[...]
O’Donnell said about Palin comparing her to Margaret Thatcher, “She has energized the party. I have always said that if we Republicans could find a candidate with the strength of character of Sara Palin – strong, tough, determined and confident, it would change the face of politics.”

With 61 days left to the campaign, there are debates and whistles stops planned by both candidates across the United States. By Nov. 4 the race will come to the finish line - perhaps with either the Republicans or Democrats winning by a nose.

“If anyone thought that we would be in this close a race after Labor Day,” said Igoe. “They would have pinched themselves. We have an excellent chance in November and the battle is on.”

’Blue’ Maryland Gives Bit of Green to McCain

Maryland’s political hue may be cool Democratic blue, but it’s still helping to keep Sen. John McCain’s campaign in the green.

Maryland government is dominated by Democrats, yet seven of its residents are in the top echelons of McCain’s fundraising team. They have raised at least a combined $900,000 for his presidential campaign, and are listed on his campaign Web site by name, city of residence and quantity of cash they pulled in.
