Ken is not a surveyor or structural engineer- i am not making excuses for him ...He did say he wants to upgrade 301-that is what i would do where the land is available and it is feasible-though-i think i would forego massive shoulders and perhaps only run one lane instead of two
But the bigger question is—Where is the money going to come from—and are there not more important immediately pressing issues?
Should not Slower Growth and making a Renewable Water Supply for the county be more imperative than the Waldorf Upgrade…Slow the population stampede—-first-and get our current house in order
-a dynamic- the rampant uncontrolled growth 5 never condsidered..while our wells went dry in west county.
2nd in relation to the money the county overpaid for libray land. The same thing was propsed or maybe it already happened -the town of Laplata offered/maybe a done deal to pay the Catipiller place on 301 millions more for its lot than it was appraised for—makes one wonder about these closed door dealings—where all the money goes above the appraised land prices???? Cayman Islands, Switzerland??

There was a citizen’s committee made up of civil engineers, commercial developers, JoePublic citizens, real estate agents, business leaders, etc that, after a 3 year study, came to the conclusion that an Upgrade of 301 was the most logical and doable. You could probably find a copy of that report or you could call on Ernie Wallace and/or Harry Kriemelmeyer, both of which, I think, sat on the study group (I know Harry did—not sure about Ernie).

Ok, I’ll try one last time to get this thru your thick skull.
Mr. Robinson stated that he plans on starting his upgrade to 301 from the split with route 5 south to the junction of Route 6 in La Plata. The upgrade would consist of a “thruway” of at least two lanes in either direction and a service road that could access the shopping areas that currently exist.
Problem: The territory from his starting point to the bridge south of the Wawa belongs to Prince Georges County. Ken needs to know that Prince Georges County would not be part of his domain. Maybe a map with an outline of Charles County would help him figure out exactly where his fiefdom’s boundary lines are.
Problem: 2 lanes in either direction and service roads translate into six lanes. Where are you going to put them???????? Seriously, you simply don’t have the room. As the road and businesses are currently configured it would be impossible to expand 301 to that extent without demolishing half the business on one side of the road or the other.
Solution: Socialist like you could claim eminent domain on all the real estate interfering with the new lanes, tear the buildings down and then you’d have enough room. If you have to buy those properties and tear them down it would be extremely costly. Even if you could expand 301 you’d have to expand all of its feeder roads to accommodate the increase in traffic, otherwise you’d create choke points which would defeat the purpose of the expansion. You’d need to come up with more money for that work. Oh yeah, in case you haven’t heard, Maryland is 2 billion in the hole and Charles County’s employees are going to a 4 day work week because they’re a tad bit short on money as well. Waldorf doesn’t need more traffic; it needs a bypass to help relieve it. That is all I have to say about his unrealistic, idiotic idea/plan.
If I were a registered candidate I’d be chirping about the Commissioners out of control spending and other unnecessary actions, not complaining about why one of them doesn’t answer his emails in a timely manner. Hard questions need to be asked of the Fab 5. Here are just a few for them:
In these tuff economic times, why did the commissioners spend $1,625,000.00 dollars for 1.8 acres of commercial lake front property to build a new library that we don’t need?
Did the commissioners really have to pay over 5 million dollars for a satellite office in Waldorf to house the sheriffs department?
The Capital Club House and the Elite gym are still losing tons of money; will anything be done to stop the losses?
The Fab 5 just instituted new policies for public meeting and hearings that are grossly unfair to their constituents. Why?
Why did the commissioners establish the Charles County Government Special Police and are they really needed?
Why did the county attorney, Roger Fink lie about the formation of this police unit and should he be fired?

Of course, I assume that you closely looked at all the different routes at the last 301 public meeting regarding such. I, also, assume you questioned closely the transportation officials standing around to answer any questions. There’s a world of information regarding the 301 Bypass vs an upgrade all for your perusal online if you’re interested, and, if you did attend at least one of the many 301 meetings, and, if you signed up for timely information, you may have received packets from the Dept of Transportation, State Highway Administration. All the information right at your fingertips for good decision making.

Ahem….looks like you found more to say. Upgrade 301! It’s doable; it makes sense, and there’s nothing a Bypass would bring of any benefit to the CC citizens except more air pollution, more noise, and more traffic when they dump all the bypass vehicles out onto 301 in La Plata (a solution to a problem isn’t a solution when it impacts another entity). Nah, nothing in it for us residents, except more out-of-control growth forcing us taxpayers to face the very same problems on a larger scale that we face now. Growth is necessary and welcomed IF it’s planned for logically and properly. More roadways? That is just so yesterday when it comes to future planning concepts!
You would serve yourself well by contacting the 2 references I mentioned in an above post and/or educating yourself regarding a 301 upgrade. This discussion in my book is closed as, when one has to resort to name calling, etc, there’s no substance to a discussion and no reason to continue on. Knowledge IS power!

For instance the CCC extension would result in about 8,000 new homes in the Bryans Road area, which is precisely what the Commissioners want. The 301 bypass would have similar results.
Ken Robinson has told us precisely what he envisions for the county, and it’s refreshing.
Yet at the same time he’s polite and diplomatic when he addresses people….

Where were was Ken Robinson at the property tax hearings? What is Ken robinson’s honest reply and stand on the current property tax hearings and results given the hardships and many,many foreclosures in CC? Where does Ken stand in regard to the commissioners latest tax raise for the citizens in the face of this recession which has hit many people hard? Inquiring minds want to know where Ken stands?
I was at Columbia University’s graduation in New York City on the day of the hearing. Sorry but life does get in the way at times. I submitted comments in writing opposing what amounts to a tax hike during a recession. In addition, current taxes are based on property values that are not equal to market realities. Adjustments need to be made here as well. This is the result of not having a diverse tax base where county revenues come mostly from one source…property taxes.
I am watching the current commissioners continue to bury themselves with bad decisions in bad times. I don’t understand their decisions but it definitely fits the pattern of the last several years.

I’m afraid I have no idea what you’re referring to. The community has made repeated contributions to the Cobb Island Fire Department and they have appeared at countless community events including our annual July Fourth parade and bonfires in the fall.
