Ok ok. I have held back long enough. Does it bother anyone that Dave Williams is using the same “type” sign that Fred Davis used? Or that his sign is very similar to Sam Graves? You all want to talk about the “good ole boy” network with our current sheriff, why dont you all look at the obvious. Fred Davis needed to go. He was not a sheriff, he was a politician. He swept so many things under the rug with corruption, to include actions of Sam Graves. I also remember reading a long time ago how Davis punished himself after being caught driving under the influence by an officer. Was his punishment enough? NO. Every other citizen of our county is punished to the fullest extent for drinking and driving, and our sheriff at the time who was supposed to be setting an example ridiculed every deputy on the street trying to keep our roads safe.
Sheriff Coffey has done a fantastic job in less than 4 years. To see signs posted by Williams “do you feel safe” is a mockery to the hard work of every deputy out there that puts themselves on the line. He is working with a tight budget, but still is able to reduce crime. YES….I feel a lot safer now than I did when Fred Davis was our Sheriff. To see pictures of Williams with Davis and Graves is sickening and it only shows what the county will face if Williams is elected. Rex is the only incumbent that should be re-elected. Rex is an honest, caring man and is very compassionate about THIS county.
It would be nice if Williams would surrender his slaughter campaign and look at the real issues of this county. We need a sheriff, not another corrupt politician.

Boy, I thought I was tough. Now that is saying what is on your mind! But let’s not say too much to encouage him to stop the “slaughter campaign”. That has turned off more people. Coffey and his men can handle Williams for another month. Corrupt is the perfect word to describe Dave Williams. Another is white trash.
Did anyone see the letter to the editor in Wednesdays Indy written by Ed Krakow? It was another “attack” letter against Coffey. Krakow forgot to mention that Dave Williams is his brother in law and lives with Dave’s sister in Hickory Ridge. Nothing like full disclosure.
In todays paper a Norman Shelton who lives a couple doors down from Dave Willisms in Clarks Run had some things to say in defense of Dave Williams’ signs. Now these men have been neighbors for a long time. I would hope his neighbor would find something nice to say about him. Mr. Shelton is fortunate that he never had to work with or for Dave Williams. If he had, odds are he would be on here bashing him too.
Let’s break this down, shall we? The facts are clear; crime is down, morale is high, there are more cops on the streets than ever before (especially during peak times), Coffey’s budget has been cut to the bone, yet he continues to provide excellent service to the public. DW has NO platform, other than to attack (2) members of the command staff and says he will fire them if elected. Who is giving this man advice? Don’t fix what is not broken! There are plenty of other politicians that need to go, Coffey is not one of them. Just one woman’s opinion.
What’s your point? Coffey beat Davis in the last election. The commissioners have cut his budget, yet crime is down. DW likes to think that the Sheriff’s Office had nothing to do with it. Yes, crime is down all over, but how does he know that in Charles County it’s not because of the hard work of the men and women of the CCSO? That is why the FOP endorsed Coffey, not DW. They like what they see and want to continue on the path they are on. Again, why fix what isn’t broke.
Also, Joan; tell whoever is giving DW his political advice to find another job. His only platform is that he is going to fire two command staff members. WOW! Makes me want to go out and vote for him! (Warning, sarcasm may have been inserted) I would also like to know how a man who has a foreclosure and a bankruptcy thinks that he is capable of running a $63 million budget. As a taxpayer I don’t want my hard earned dollars in this man’s hands.
Joan, I suspect your purpose in posting the link is to reiterate the brutality charge against Coffey. But what I saw in that article was an opportunity to compare Coffey’s promises of four years ago to his actual record today. And they look pretty damn close. He has increased the number of cops on the street. He has reduced crime. He has reallocated resources for better and more efficient use. I have spoken to a maybe fifteen or twenty cops in the last year or so who have individually said they thought morale was as high as they’ve seen it ever be. Those all sound like promises kept to me. One of the key differences between him and Davis can be found in Davis’s response to the minimum staffing question. He didn’t know, saying that was the patrol division commander’s responsibility. I haven’t seen a similar question ever asked of Coffey that he didn’t know the answer to. He seems to be a lot more relevantly involved than Davis was. We can parse Coffey’s previous experience if you want, but that doesn’t change the quantifiable success he has had as sheriff over the last four years. We can rehash a charge of brutality from nearly twenties years ago that he was exonerated from, but that doesn’t change the facts either. I think the main thing the article does is reinforce Coffey’s ongoing commitment to the original promises he made four years ago.
One should ask the reason WHY is crime down in Charles County? It’s a numbers game and how crime statistics are formulated. Take a look at at all the fast food joints every morning and the lunch spots at noon. They are packed CCSO vehicles as the officers go right from roll call to an hour long snack break. No wonder crime is down because the CCSO brass look the other way and are not proactive in making sure officers are continuously deployed out on the streets. Guess this would be a good reason for the FOP support. In fact it’s about 9:20 am right now and I’m in a La Plata restaurant right now looking at five officers who have been here for some time enjoying breakfast. They have all just started thier shift. A good reason to understand why crime is down.
I’m sure burglaries are on the rise during this summer vacation. I just arrived home this morning from a long weekend trip only to find a large plactic bag hanging on my mail box. I had stopped mail delivery to prevent the appearance of a vacant home and not invite burglars. The plastic bag was not placed there by the post office but someone who must be working for Sheriff Coffey as the bag contained his campaign flyers. Come CCSO where is your crime prevention unit at Pancaked-Plus? I don’t blame the officers. I blame the leadership. We need someone like Dave Williams.
That’s your reply? Attack the men and women of the CCSO? I guess being in uniform prevents any of these officers from enjoying a breakfast or a cup of coffee. Under DW they won’t be allowed to eat while they work their 8 to 10 hour shift? Is that what you are saying? Crime numbers have been fudged? Is that what you are saying? Please, go back and read the part of this thread where it states that Coffey uses the actual “Crime Numbers” (how many burglaries, thefts etc. the county actually had) not “Crime per Capita”. That should give you an idea of who fudged what numbers.
Again, this man is getting poor political advice. He should stay behind the camera, that’s where he belongs.
In fact it’s about 9:20 am right now and I’m in a La Plata restaurant right now looking at five officers who have been here for some time enjoying breakfast. They have all just started thier shift.
JoanB, are you guessing or did you walk up and ask them if they’ve just started their shifts? Could they be police officers who have to appear in court or are on special duty for something else? No organization or business is 100% efficient especially if waiting on other entities. If you know for certain these 5 were goofing off, that’s one thing, but there are too many options to make you believeable.
Dave Williams and his supporters are getting antsy seein’ as how they can’t find anything that sticks to Sheriff Coffey.
One should ask the reason WHY is crime down in Charles County? It’s a numbers game and how crime statistics are formulated.
The crime statistics are prepared and reported by a Lieutenant working for the Agency. Just so happens, that Lieutenant is also running for Sheriff—Tim Crawford. Any conjecture regarding manipulation of the crime numbers to make Rex Coffey look good calls into questions the integrity of the Republican candidate running for Sheriff. Its more likely that Lt. Crawford is reporting the numbers exactly as they are.

They also could have ended their shift at 0700 and have been enjoying breakfast (or dinner for them) and some time chatting and winding down before going home to sleep. I know when I work the midnight shift this is a regular routine for me and those I work with on shift.
While we’re speculating, I think seahorse made some great points…

Excellent point, Quack. And, yet, another variable has invaded JoanB’s carefully (or not so carefully) laid out scenario

I’m trying to follow the logic here but it just isn’t working out. It appears you are tying to say that crime is down as a result of the cops goofing off more than in the past and the lack of supervisory oversight. Are you trying to say that crime itself isn’t down, just arrests because the cops are all in the fast food restaurants instead of on the streets catching the criminals, and that is what is being reported? Wouldn’t that failure be reflected in a comparison of arrests versus crimes reported? Aren’t the victims of crimes still reporting them, regardless of where the cops are sitting at the time of the crime? If a cop is in Starbucks and a man is murdered across town, do we not still reflect that murder in the statistics? I’m sorry, but I see no logic in five cops sitting in a restaurant being a “good reason why crime is down.” Except maybe the majority of crimes were previously being committed in that restaurant.
Just an observation but there are ALWAYS lots of police cruisers parked next to Pancakes Plus. Those vehicles are being serviced at the Goodyear next door as the CCSO has a contract there.
JoanB seems to be the best advocate for Coffey (or anyone else other than Williams). If Dave were smart, he’d pay JoanB to stop “helping” him!
JoanB should read more like DaveW - We know its you Dave no one else cares as much as you do about the crap you throw out there -
Dave Williams is a shameless man who continues to besmirch the hard working men and women of the Sheriffs Office
Shame on you Dave Williams - you are disgusting
I wanted to give everyone a chance to chime in before I respond. No I’m not DW nor have I ever met him. The officers I observed this morning were on duty and not on the way home. I’m aware of the CCSO vehicles parked at the repair shop near PP. They have a contract I believe to service and repair CCSO vehicles. The 7-11, McDonalds, Chick-fil-A, Ledo’s and WaWa are just a few La Plata hangouts for CCSO and MSP. You can find them there on duty just about every day. As I’ve made it clear in my post above “I don’t blame the officers. I blame the leadership” Of course Maria’s reply is “That’s your reply? Attack the men and women of the CCSO?” No Maria I’m not attacking the rank and file so stop trying to stir things up as you so often enjoy doing. Maybe we can try to find out why the decrease in crime just prior to an election. I hear the was a recent unofficial poll regarding campaign signs. It was suggested that if a property owner had a DW sign on his property there was a good chance that they were going to vote for him. Have you counted all the signs? And just talking with the many workers at the malls, shops and restaurants in Waldorf their customers say they will support DW 100%. And the tide is turning in other areas of the county. I know the small hard core group of regulars here on DD stand behind Sheriff Coffey (who by the way is a good man) but you may be in for a surprise come election day. What’s DD going talk about when Sheriff Williams comes to town?
You want the truth JoanB.I am Rex’s wife and the only other person other than himself on our campaign committee. In response to your comment about the campaign literature on your mailbox. You said the plastic bag was put there by someone who must be working for Sheriff Coffey as the bag contained his campaign flyers. Wrong! Nobody works for us and you forgot to mention that the bag contained literature from many other candidates also. It was distributed by the union folks that endorsed those candidates. They contacted us and asked for some flyers to be included in a literature drop. Rex and I gave them the material and that was it. I will expect your apology on this matter now that you have the facts.
Now that someone knows who’s placing plastic bags full of information I never requested on US Postal mail boxes maybe we can get something done to stop it. Crime Prevention 101. During the summer vacation months it would not be wise to leave unattended mail, newspapers or “plastic bags” with elect Coffey information in front of your home. I don’t want it, didn’t ask for it and think it’s not a very good thing to do to a homeowner who is on vacation.
JoanB stated “The plastic bag was not placed there by the post office but someone who must be working for Sheriff Coffey as the bag contained his campaign flyers.”
Cindy C stated “ It was distributed by the union folks that endorsed those candidates. They contacted us and asked for some flyers to be included in a literature drop. Rex and I gave them the material and that was it.”
I’m just trying to make some sense of this. According to Cindy C Sheriff Coffey gave the material to the union folks and then they distributed them. OK maybe that’s why I suggested that since it was not placed there by the post office it was placed there by someone working for Sheriff Coffey.
As I’ve said Sheriff Coffey is a good man and has done a great job as Sheriff. I just think Dave Williams has more experience and would provide more leadership.
DaveW I mean JoanB - Do you really think anyone believes that you do not even know Dave Williams - You do nothing but comment with derogatory remarks about the CCSO and say you do it just because - Your a liar - You ARE Dave Williams Nobody else cares about the crap you bring up except that jerk Williams - sour grapes go away
Rex Coffey AND his Administration have done nothing but great things for the CCSO - Williams has no platform other than nastiness and hatred - The crime figures are down - the morale is high and the budget is balanced - Why change what ain’t broken -
Joan, I’m still trying to figure out how you equated more cops in fast food restaurants with lower crime statistics. You seem to have passed right over that when it is a cornerstone of your latest argument. Care to explain that reasoning?
