But that is the issue, if she is not paying rent, the she would have to claim taxes as a gift in the amount of what current rents are in the county, ie, if the adverage rental of a like unit was 700.00 per month, that would be a tangable taxable gift that taxes would be due. Even if she is living with family…
Huh? R.R., are you a CPA? Based on your info, my kids should be claiming the fair market value for the going rate of rent in my neighborhood. Furthermore, this is all speculative, right? Here’s a fine, upstanding man who is running for national office and we have a few bloggers trying to spin a web of corruption out of speculation. When you all did your amateur sluthing and made a connection between Nabors and Lollar, my first thought was that they were friends or family and that Nabors was a guest in the Lollar home. I have no idea what the situation is but even on a blog, it is certainly reckless or at least bad form to make vailed allegations of wrongdoing that could damage someone’s reputation. Politics is, afterall, largely based on perception. Boy, politics sure is getting ugly down there in Chuck Co.
I have no comment on the previous post as I have no knowledge of any of it. This however I know about and I suspect Francis knows many who are culprits to stirring the pot- it goes all ways: “Boy, politics sure is getting ugly down there in Chuck Co.” Here in Charles where you have experienced it in close proximity.
Francis: I will not say anymore right now, cause I promised someone. But those who do cause trouble will be unhappy campers at some point.
I certainly wasn’t being party exclusive, Barbara. You are correct, politics in general is getting so nasty. (I’m rapidly burning out!). I’m truly looking forward to November 3rd!

If you or your children are required to pay rent or not, if they are under 18 years old, no, it’s your responsibility to provide a roof over their head. If your children are grown, and decide to return home, and live at home, are earning a living, yes, a fair market value would have to be paid to the IRS in comparable value. Just like if you win a prize, you need to report the value of the prize as a earning. Now if you are charging them rent, that is considered earned income, and as such is taxable. You accuse me of being a speculator and being an amateur sleuth, which I find insulting. You don’t need to be a CPA to read or understand some basic laws, just make a call to the IRS, or you an also find some information here: http://www.irs.gov/ Or just ask some Congressman who have been charged with ethics violations in congress for failing to pay Nanny taxes and other rental taxes while serving in congress.
You accuse me of playing dirty politics, that’s also insulting As a voter I am entitled to check out any candidates past, and because I did this, questions surfaced, while looking to find out how long she has lived here, running in our county, when she has recently moved here from another state. This is a reasonable search for information.
This is not dirty politics, this is a valid question, to insure both are properly vetted before they take office and for all voters including myself to have the proper information given to those voters before they make there informed decisions.
Since you wish to state I engage in dirty politics, I would like you to understand what I feel are dirty politics: What I think is dirt would be the republican committee placing someone in a position to run for a position in our government in which that person openly admits in public “I have no idea of what the job entails “running for the sake of running, to an office that is held by a competent person who has spent their life engaged in public service for this department. If Mrs. Nabors truly wishes to run for this office, then let her learn the “requirements of the trade” by at least spending sometime working the desk as staff of this office, that’s a slap in my face and your face by the RCC to just fill a ballot.
Mrs. Hancock has demonstrated her commitment to the citizens of Charles County, through her years of committed service, for someone to run on purely on a true lark, with no idea or knowledge of the position what so ever is an open invitation for some scrutiny.
So just how long has she lived here, is she paying our taxes? Maybe this would be a good subject for some investigative reporting from the Indy or Washington Post.

Here we go, I bet somehow its gonna be Bush and Cheney’s fault. Did you ever think that there is no conspiracy? Maybe they just believe in their people.
I’m sure if so was of the other party nothing would be said.
Don’t give that me that BS you are protecting the voters and the process, you’re just causing a stir to muddy her name so it helps her to fail, and by the way I’m not voting for her, my choice not because of some political attack.
Whats next she does witchcraft, comes from Alaska, worked as a health exect, screwed the help.
Get onto real issues, number #1 is the way this county has been mismanaged by smucks from both parties but mainly Dems since they are the majority and do all they can to keep it that way even if means stirring up the pot, which translates the mean old big bad Republicans are coming so give me your votes since we don’t wanted go backwards. Give me a freaking break!!!!!!
Hey its America you can run for what ever you feel like and win if enough people will vote for you.
Asking questions, doing your homework about candidates, etc. is NOT what I call “dirty politics” at all. On the contrary, it is our responsibility. What I consider “dirty politics” is when someone’s questions are designed to defame or call into questions someone’s character in a public forum specifically as an attempt to discredit. In my humble opinion, that’s what is happening here. Just recently, for example, several stories about Wayne Cooper circulated around the county and there was a huge outcry from the public. Many spoke up publically on Wayne’s behalf (including Wayne himself) and denied all the rumors but what was said was certainly damaging.
It would be no different than someone posting an ad in the paper that said, “I saw a female coming out of Rocky Raccoon’s house yesterday that I didn’t recognize. I wonder if ol’ Rocky is having an affair.” It just seemed like a lot of questions came up in this thread that weren’t really based on any real info. Maybe it just sounded that way in my head as I read but it just seemed odd.
As for the respective Central Committees putting people on the ballot, I checked into this when it came up earlier and was told that they have no control over who runs for office. There doesn’t seem to be any sort of “vetting” process by the committees. Once someone announces a candidacy, the Central Committees will then choose to support that candidate or not. I was told that oftentimes the candidates are well-known by the Committees because of their political involvement but not always. Bottom line: The Central Committees have no say in who files to run for office.

Hmm you saw her, I thought we had it planned out well enough no one would see…
I was not trying to defame anyone, I was simply pointing out a fact, that has happend in the past with congress… and as it appears she is staying at the legal residence of C.L. It just irked me she is intent on running with no idea of the office she is tying to obtain, however in order to help keep the peace I will drop this topic here.
Not to pick a scab here, but the Central Committees do indeed play a role - specifically, if no candidate emerges for an elected office race, then the committee will beat the bushes to ensure that a candidate is identified and the respective party is represented. Of course, other groups and individuals do the same, but bottom line is that anyone who can afford to pay the filing fee and who meets whatever residency and/ or other requirements can put him/herself on a ballot.
That’s what I was getting at. Of course CCs play a role, I just didn’t want readers left with the notion that somehow CCs are picking people to run and putting them on the ballot. My understanding is that anyone can run (with or without the assistance/blessing/knowledge of the CCs).

A year ago or so, I brought this up: I though a Committee role was to find and support there candidates; In fact I think you corrected me at the time.
- after all they have filed under that Party and goes to party events- if not they are vilified- if they go to another party event they are reprimanded. Seems like a party has some control of the candidate whether they ‘approve’ of a candidate or not.
Maybe the candidates here in the County level should not be affilated at all- sonce they are in no way vetted or supported. The party name gives a candicay legitamacy- if you have no say in it or don’t help in any way- then what IS the point?
And if not- why criticize a candidate for changing to a party that will give them support; even though the candidate still has the same ideas and stance.

Seems very misleading to the average Joe.
There you go, Barbara. I can’t speak for the RCC, but having been a member of the DCC for some time, I can tell you that if you ask any 10 members, you will get 12 different answers about what the purpose of the committee is. Why they are there is equally as indecipherable.
