Constellation Energy Group Inc. and the operator of its coal-fly ash dumping site in Anne Arundel County must pay a $1 million fine and clean up contaminated groundwater, the Maryland attorney general’s office announced this afternoon.
The agreement forged by Constellation, BBSS Inc. and the Maryland Department of the Environment also requires the companies to replace drinking water near the BBSS gravel pits in Gambrills and monitor the site. The deal was struck by today’s deadline, warding off a threatened lawsuit by the state. [Baltimore Sun]
