Board of Appeals: Docket #1232

THE BOARD OF APPEALS FOR CHARLES COUNTY, MARYLAND, having been petitioned by Washington Security Group (WSG) Holdings, LLC, for a Special Exception regarding a research facility that will conduct specialized research including firearms and weapons research, development, testing and evaluation services, as provided in Article XIII, Section 297-212 and Article XXV, Section 297-415 of the Charles County Zoning Ordinance. The subject property is located on Liverpool Point Road (Route 426), Nanjemoy, Maryland, designated as Tax Map 60, Grid 2, Parcel 231. The property consists of approximately 80 acres and is in the Agricultural Conservation (AC) Zone with a Resource Protection Zone (RPZ) overlay. The Board of Appeals is hereby giving notice that a Public Hearing will be held on this matter Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at 7:00 p.m., in the Commissioners Meeting Room of the Charles County Government Building, La Plata, Maryland.

The Petition and Plats, filed October 30, 2008 and the Zoning Officer’s Report for Docket #1232 are available for inspection at the Office of the Board of Appeals located in the Planning and Growth Management Office, Charles County Government Building, La Plata, Maryland.

  • 1. · Here we go again. Another application for a TOTALLY inappropriate use. Are "agricultural conservation zone" and "resource protection zone" words that mean nothing? I suppose that this "war zone" won't have ANY effect on our environment or quality of life. In fact, I'll bet they'll tell citizens how much better those things will be living near a "war zone". Good-bye peace and quiet. How can this even be a consideration? Souldn't this be located on the base or at Stump Neck instead of in the "Wildlife Area"? See you at the hearing.

    But maybe that's the point - hoping to wear us down...well, to their misfortune it will only invigorate us!!

    Nanjemoy is designated in the Comprehensive Plan as a "village" - like Hughesville. But hey, since when does the Çomp. Plan mean anything? Unless it's followed, it's not worth the paper it's printed on...

    All the more reason, for O"Malley's proposal, that local governments follow their Comp Plans, become law ASAP!

  • 3. · Charles county needs to update their comprehensive plan it does not follow the states Smart Growth principles. This is shown in the countys perferred U.S.301 bypass corridor and also proven by the size of the DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT and its location. WE need long term protective measures and boundaries for environmentally sensitive areas such as Mattawoman creek and its watershed and other highly forested areas like Nanjemoy.

  • 4. · The Commissioners are so desparate to give the appearance of bringing "high tech" jobs to the County that I bet this flies like "cr...p thru a goose" What is next, atomic research facility next to one of Chaney's gravel washing facilities ? Wait a minute.......grin

  • 5. · Do feel so bad guys this is just about in my front yard. I live in Nanjemoy. But here's the thing how many will show up at the meeting to and speak Oh maybe 2! So no wonder the Zoning Board approves everything. I will be there and attend the meeting. As a Charles County Citizen and a Candidate for District 2 which covers Nanjemoy I am not in favor of this facitily being placed here in Nanjemoy.

    So if you do not want this approved then SHOW UP AT THIS MEETING. I will count and let you know how many show up.
