Charles County’s security chief John McConnell was sworn in last week as an official special police officer, given the power to make arrests and carry a weapon on county government property.
The hiring of a sworn officer to protect the county commissioners and the county government building in La Plata is unprecedented, but McConnell is no rookie.

The commissioners’ offices, as well as fiscal services, the county attorney and human resources, can only be accessed if visitors are buzzed through a hallway door.

I will look in the budget and see if I can find it.Keep in mind too that the State Police, in order to approve a Special Police Commission, require the applicant to show proof of a "General Liability Insurance Policy of $1,000,000 (one million dollars)..."
Remember, take everything they say with a grain, er, with a ton of salt.
