Email calls foul on race remark

A storm over the comprehensive plan went online following comments from Charles County Planning Commission Chairman Courtney Edmonds at last week’s commission meeting.

The Balanced Growth Initiative in La Plata sent an email to members stating that Edmonds insinuated at the meeting that the group is racist.

BGI identifies itself as a nonprofit organization advocating for “citizens, both individually and corporately in land use and economic matters” on legislation “when the interests of the corporation need to be voiced.”

    During that meeting, the commission voted 3-3, which is a failed vote, to pursue three studies on fiscal and economic impacts, ecosystem services and a critique of the county’s water resources element.

    Forget the crap the "Growth Initiative" is slinging--that's nothing but smokescreen to derail the real issues. More importantly is the quote--it speaks for itself. How can anyone sitting on a Planning Commission not want the above 3 studies? The 3 Planning Commission members who voted down those studies should be removed because they're dissing the whole Comp Plan process, the commissioners and, mostly, us citizens.

    Where do they get off saying no to the studies when so many citizens want them?
