Having fun in Denver, but who pays the bill?

Gazette, by Janel Davis

With bags packed and home flights secured, the Maryland delegation leaves the Mile High City after four days of the Democratic National Convention.

Representing the state were 100 elected and appointed delegates participating in a range of caucus meetings and nightly convention events, and casting votes for the Democratic nominees.

The most expensive item: transportation. Fortunately, much of the transportation — including shuttles to delegation events — was sponsored by the Baltimore Orioles and the team’s owner, Peter G. Angelos. Also contributing to the overall costs were local companies, such as Dominion Power, Constellation Energy Group, Pepco, Lockheed Martin and Comcast.

  • 1. · I don't think the taxpayers should fit the bill for any of these types of events; but does anyone else have a problem with these corporations providing the funding for trips -- or delegates seeking "sponsors?"

Anyone heard of the expression 'there ain't no such thing as a free lunch...'?

  • 3. · I disagree with lobbist's able to spend huge money to buy votes (and you cant tell me they dont have influence) PACS, and "sponsors" for political events.

The party or the representatives should pay the way.
