Is Maryland cut off from Dulles International Airport?

WTOP, by Adam Tuss

When it comes to access to D.C. area airports, are they all created equally? Maybe not, when it comes to Dulles International.

Leo Schefer, head of the Washington Airports Task Force, says Maryland residents are isolated from Dulles, and that needs to change.

“The Potomac River has become a barrier. We need to see the access to Dulles expand across the River to the north,” said Schefer at a recent transportation summit.

  • 1. · Absolutely. To only have two bridges between Washington, D.C. and Dalgren, VA. is ridiculous. This is a big metropolitan area and we need more bridges crossing the Potomac.

  • 2. · No worry Iam... I'm pretty sure that the long awaited Lower Potomac bridge from Woodbridge - Chicamuxen is on the drawing board... snake

  • 3. · Get it off of the drawing board and across the Potomac so I can get the best BBQ pork in Fredericksburg that I have ever had. You might also like it, cheryl.

  • 4. · Well it's been around since the early 60's and I'm hoping it has to sit around for another 50 years!!

  • 5. · I once read or heard that the land that is now St. Charles was originally purchased in an attempt to lure what later became Dulles Airport to Southern Maryland. Anyone know if that is true or not?

Just think of all the Trader Joe's and Harris Teeters we'd have down here if that had happened.

Don't forget Wegman's. I'd be glad to sacrifice all of the old tobacco farms for these amenities and then take a vacation once a year to the hinterlands if I want to communicate with nature.

  • 7. · Bah.

I lived in NYC, Baltimore, and DC proper before here. If I wanted uppity grocery stores with overpriced food I would have stayed in one of those places.

I never understood moving out to a less urban area "because land and houses are cheap" and then complaining because there's no high-end stores around.

Well, you are here now so why not fight for and eventually be able to enjoy the high-end stores in your own town rather than having to spend a day getting to them? Since when is looking out for Number One a fatal disease? After all, the previous generation probably did the same and most likely the next generation will also.

  • 9. · Well my food needs are pretty well met without having to drive a day to get to anywhere.

I am looking out for Number One, and there is plenty worth fighting for. Being able to shop in a "top shelf" grocery store isn't on the top of my list of what brings quality to my life. If that's what you desire, far be from me to nudge .. but I don't think it's universal that everyone wants the same things.

I've been to all of those places mentioned, and there's not a thing I need to provide nourishment that I can't obtain locally in Charles County. There are plenty of vegetable growers around, you can get fresh, locally raised chickens, beef, lamb, goat, seafood of all sorts. Whatever suits your fancy.

For everything else, spend $75 and join Amazon Prime ... clickety-clack-clack, and in a few days comestibles show up at your doorstep.

There's even auto-order for basic consumables. It's like magic I tell you.

  • 10. · #5 Believe Senator Frank Boyken was involved with Linda City ( St. Charles ) land. Convicted of conflict of interest and conspiracy to defraud the goverment, either wanted to move Andrews to Charles County or bring Dulles, ended up with housing project, tried to get pres. Kennedy involved as investor and also tried to kick it off by giving Alan shepard a free house. Convicted 1963 pardoned by Johnson 1965. Not sure of all the details, some remember it as Senator Likes Boyken, but either way the land was not assembled for housing.
