Charles County Commissioners do not disappoint...their good buddy, and campaign contributor, Frank Chaney. Rezoning request approved, unanimously. Noteworthy is the fact that Sam Graves "Commissioner for the People" was the first to make the motion to approve. Cooper stated because CSM and Red Cross came out to testify, they couldn't be left out in the cold. Nevermind the hundreds of letters from Hughesville residents opposing and the dozens who spoke at the public hearings. Edith only approved because of the land donations and wanted that a condition of approval - illegal. IMHO, Reuben must be a lousy lawyer since he stated he researched the law extensively to determinie a change in the character of the neighborhood and found this request met the criteria. Fink also mentioned, again, his many "negotiations" with Chaney representatives. I hope everyone remembers this when 2010 gets here. I will do everything I can to see to it not one of them gets re-elected. They do not represent their constituents - it seems they only cut deals for their buddies.The revitalization plan is dead, unless, we win the appeal. Thanks, commissioners, for ruining our quality of life. I have no idea how you can sleep at night. You make me sick.

(AP) - A policy intended to achieve racial equality at a north Mississippi school has long meant that only white kids can run for some class offices one year, black kids the next. But Brandy Springer, a mother of four mixed race children, was stunned when she moved to the area from Florida and learned her 12-year-old daughter couldn't run for class reporter because she wasn't the right race.The rules sparked an outcry on blogs and other websites after Springer contacted an advocacy group for mixed-race families. The NAACP called for a Justice Department investigation _ not surprising in a state with a history of racial tension dating to the Jim Crow era.By Friday afternoon, the Nettleton School District announced on its website that it would no longer use race in school elections.Superintendent Russell Taylor posted a statement saying the practice had been in place for 30 years, dating back to a time when school districts across Mississippi came under close scrutiny from the U.S. Justice Department over desegregation."It is the belief of the current administration that these procedures were implemented to help ensure minority representation and involvement in the student body," the statement said. "It is our hope and desire that these practices and procedures are no longer needed."Springer, who moved to Lee County from Florida in April, said her daughter was told the office of sixth-grade class reporter at Nettleton Middle School was available only to black students this year.Her anger grew when she saw school election guidelines that allowed only whites to run for class president this year. I dodged a lot of electronic tomatoes last year for suggesting that President Obama NOT give his back-to-school speech during class time. Many readers thought that was a stupid suggestion. The president and his staff apparently agree with them, because the White House has announced he is going to do it again on Sept. 14. The White House is again encouraging schools to interrupt class so students can listen.I am going to stay away from the political issues. I know this is an election year. Here in the Washington area, including D.C. and the Maryland suburbs where I live, Sept. 14 will be primary election day, with a D.C. mayoral race important to the future of D.C. schools. But I don't think the president's speech will affect that much. That is not why it bothers me.Last year, at least, the speech occurred on or near the first day of school for many students. That day is often a waste anyway, just finding your classrooms, greeting your friends and sizing up your teachers. This year he will be speaking on what is the second week for some students, and for many the third or fourth week, when serious learning should be underway. More Md., Va. students taking ACT for college entrance, data showBy Michael BirnbaumWashington Post Staff WriterThursday, August 19, 2010An increasing number of Maryland and Virginia high school students are taking the ACT college entrance test in a region where the SAT has long been dominant, according to data released Wednesday. In Virginia this year, 22 percent of high school seniors who graduated took the ACT at some point in school, up from 19 percent in 2009, according to the state Department of Education.This year's SAT data have not yet been released. But the percentage of graduating Virginia high school seniors who took the SAT dropped from 73 percent in 2007 to 58 percent in 2009.In Maryland, the number of graduating seniors who took the ACT grew this year, too, to 11,924 from 11,317 in 2009, the Iowa-based ACT organization reported. The number of seniors taking the SAT dropped slightly from 2008 to 2009, but it remains the state's most widely used test. The number of D.C. students taking the ACT has been flat since 2008. It nearly took until spring to tally up this winter’s snowfall.

It was the snowiest winter ever recorded at all three of our area’s major airports.

2. · If you look at the science of climate change- you can see the paradox....actually it is. It has to do with the currents in the Worlds Oceans.

Global Warming maybe a misnomer- I think media latched onto that one where it should actually be called Climate Change- a natural phenomenon that has occurred throughout the History of our Planet- remember the Ice AGE?

Whether mans actions has changed this- its debatable. Whether we can do things to stop it may be debatable. But I do know our actions are a detriment to our environment (think water for instance)So even if you may laugh at the one- think of the reality with your experiences and knowledge and you know change has to happen to make our World better.

The earthquakes lately is another way our climate may change- since the tsunami years ago and with the latest in Chile- it has jarred our planet a little off its course each time- THATS power. What the change may be in the long run. I dont know-

3. · I also am not convinced that climate change/global warming is primarily man-made. But, I am all for eliminating pollution--air, water and ground. Would we all not be better off with cleaner water and better air? That is why I support 'cap and trade' or some other method to discourage pollution. I remember going to the Bethlehem Steel Mill in Baltimore County as a kid and seeing the town of Sparrows Point where the mill was located. Everything was orange--houses, streets, sidewalks, earth, everything. Years later I went back after the government made the mill clean itself up and after high Union wages put it out of business and the town looked just like any other non-steel mill town. Now, I don't think the steel mill caused any global warming but Sparrows Point is certainly a lot healthier place to live in now than it was then.

Unfortunately corporate freedom with little oversight normally leads to just such an outcome.

It's all about the bottom line, what is right is usually not what is cheap. Then we get into a situation where the entity that caused the pollution walks off with profits and the taxpayers get hit with the clean-up (and personally having to take care of any medical impacts the pollution causes - remember the uranium tailings in the concrete at 4-corners).

Even though the Supreme Court treats corporations as individuals there is no expectation of big business to be held to the morality of "personal responsibility"

i am starting to think he has been stewing since losing the election---strike that---had the election outright stolen from him by two war criminals---and finally got pissed off enough to say "f--- it" and start screwing us over.
