The mall and surrounding businesses in the Waldorf area cannot afford to have people thinking it isn’t safe to shop in Charles County. Tax revenues will drop if folks feel the need to travel outside the county to shop. Local businesses and restaurants could suffer. And it simply isn’t the way you want your community perceived by the people who live here as well as potential visitors to the area.
But the damage has been done. For that reason, mall officials and the police must work quickly to restore the public’s confidence and allay any fears that people might have. That doesn’t mean hiding incidents of crime in that area from the public.
