Royce Miller, President and Promoter of Maryland International Raceway, spoke about improvements being made to the track on Monday. Upgrades are being made to the remaining wooden bleachers and several safety improvements are being made, among other things.
Improvements are being made at the starting line around the guardrails and the Christmas tree, to existing bleachers and on the spectator side of the track.
“(We’re replacing asphalt with concrete) In between the lanes, guard wall between Christmas tree and starter and it’s mainly the modern style that tracks use,” Track president and promoter Royce Miller said. “What we had before was the ARMCO guardrail. The new style has more protection value and more marketing opportunity for signage. Our start line has one of the best reputations in the country for how it performs and we don’t want to make any changes to that.
