Md. Congressman Commits to Support for Illegal Immigrants

By DIANA NGUYEN

Southern Maryland Online,

Rep. Chris Van Hollen committed to fight for comprehensive immigration reform at a rally Thursday night, vowing to work toward amnesty to protect and keep immigrant families together.

About 30 faith-based organizations, or more than 500 people, attended the pro-amnesty event at the Bethel World Outreach Ministries International Church sponsored by Action in Montgomery, or AIM, a coalition of diverse religious congregations in Montgomery County.

  • 1. · I guess he thinks he was voted in to office as a representative from Mexico, South America. This is why the loons of Montgomery County look stupid with there ultra liberal ways. Montgomery County is becoming a third world receptical for illegals and all that it brings.
Stuck on Stupid! This guy doe not mine how low he has to go as long as he gets a vote.

  • 3. · If only John Wayne were still around. He'd punch all those stupid illegals in the face and fix everything.

  • 5. · we do need an intelligent solution to this issue- one that does the right and moral thing not what is expedient (to die-hards nay sayers) and harmful to families that are create here in America.

Many have earned there way and been good citizens while here. They have worked hard and all they wanted was a better life. Yes - they did it the 'wrong' way- but can you imagine being so desperate for a better life that you risk death- sometimes over and over to get here?

Let us be compassionate and reasonable. If they have broken the law in other ways- yes- send them home. But if they have been productive citizens in all but legality; cant we find a way?

  • 6. · The days of "send us your huddled masses" are over. We must control the flood and turn it into a trickle. I'm not a huge fan of "amnesty" but if they were to shut down the borders and slow the influx to a trickle I think the decent thing to do is grant all those who are law abiding and already here, amnesty.

    shut down the borders

Does that mean that no one would be allowed to come here legally?

  • 9. · Ahhhhh, I stated they need to close the borders to let in a trickle not the flood. The only people allowed to enter must enter legally. Who can find fault in that?

  • 10. · I don't see any problem with that at all, but the legal entry borders are as tight as they can be. It's the non-border entry areas that need better policiing. If I live in Chile and decide I want to come here to make a better life, why should it take years to do this?

  • 11. · The problem as I see it is that we need to take care of our own first. The US is probably the most generous nation in the world, to a fault. We have nearly 10% of our population out of work. For every illegal that is working here, there is an American out of work. I know, I have heard the argument; "they do the jobs no one else wants". Right now, I'd say there are millions that would love to have a job, any job right now. The term "illegal alien" means just that, illegal. They are here unlawfully. If we grant amnesty to them, where does it stop? Do we grant amnesty to criminals in jail? Or how about the local drunk drivers or sex offenders? We need to focus on our own welfare first, then worry about others. Just my opinion and not intended to offend anyone.

  • 12. · the simplest way to take care of the illegal problem is to force them to be paid the exact same salary that a U.S. citizen would be paid for the same job. now the incentive for shady employers to hire them in the first place is gone. the nose dive the economy has taken is quelling the flow, but obviously this won't be the case forever.

If we grant amnesty to them, where does it stop?

it stops right there. there is no reason to believe that a leads to b, or more specifically that criminals or sex offenders will be running loose if amnesty is granted to illegal aliens. that's why it's called a logical fallacy.

why not grant amnesty and make them part of the tax base? those who are here illegally are already consuming services anyway. might as well get them on the roles.

building walls won't work because the rich monied up NIMBY types along the border in Texas complained to Bushie that this wall was going to either go through their yards and ruin their pristine view and so now we have this wall with big giant holes poked in it. makes a lot of sense. talk about government waste.

absent a wall, another way is to enact policies that work to give people a good life where they are make them want to stay there because there are economic opportunities there. this is what i would prefer.
