Obama wins Powell’s endorsement
Colin L. Powell, who was President Bush’s first secretary of state, endorsed Democrat Barack Obama for president yesterday and criticized the tone of Republican John McCain’s campaign.
The retired general and former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said either candidate is qualified to be commander in chief. But he said Obama is better suited to handle the nation’s economic problems as well as help improve its standing in the world.

- 1. · Colin Powell is a true hero, one with a clear inner guideline of right and wrong.
I have always admired the man and his wisdom.
He does say either man is qualified , which is very diplomatic. ANd true.
It is who will be better at representing us to the World- and our low reputation in it at this moment of time. Something I worry will escaluate in the future into something bad.
It really has me very concerned- are we peacemakers or warmongers? Should we get our own house in order first? Who is calm and measured and who is quick to anger and respond?. These are all questions I hope others ask at this time.
And if God forbid something happened to whoever was elected. Their VP will step onto the position of power. Again ask those questions to yourself.
Everyone has a past- everyone has done things they regret when looking past what they are used to doing and see as others see. We all need to look and see if there is trueness in the hearts of those running.
In the questions you will find the answer.

Palin is just as qualified as Hillary or Bill were before their rise to the white house. those 2 were small town nobodies from ark.

Some of us dont see that way- and with his experiences in life, I dont see him falling for the race line.

Well, No one twisted his arm to "endorse" anybody. He came forward of his own volition indicating that he, indeed, wants to inject himself into the political process. He must have a reason, no?
Then, you have Barack Obama who has spent his entire campaign badmouthing every single aspect of the Bush administration...until now! Now he openly welcomes the endorsement from a Republican cabinet secretary under Bush. What a pandering putz!

McCain's voted against alternative sources of energy. Against clean biofuels. Against solar power. Against wind power. Against an energy bill that represented the largest investment in renewable sources of energy in the history of this country. So when John McCain talks about the failure of politicians in Washington to do anything about our energy crisis, understand that John McCain should look in the mirror because he has been a part of that failure. THE ARTIC ICE CAP WILL BE GONE BY 2030 IF CHANGE IS NOT MADE BUT McCain and PALIN ARE SAYING DRILL BABY DRILL.THEY JUST DON'T GET IT. WHAT'S NEXT????
Comment by amphibia on 10/21 at 10:10 PM | [Back to Top] | [Back to Main] - 11. · Interesting change in tactic, Amphibia. Your initial post was completely against nuclear power (and john McCain's support of it), with not caveats. Now that it's pointed out that Obama supports nuclear energy the "yeah buts" start. "Yeah, but he supports 'safe and secure nuclear energy . . .'" How does that jibe with the "vast majority of public interest and environmental groups" that outrightly (adamantly, in fact) oppose nuclear energy?
BTW: since you switch topics in your second post between addressing Obama's position and McCain's position, how about filling in the details? What is McCain's position on nuclear power? Does he support safe and secure nuclear energy, or is he against it? Is he for or against security of nuclear fuel and waste, or is he against? And on the other side, which bills specifically did McCain vote nay on that promoted alternative energy sources and how did Obama vote on those same bills?
Comment by mbillard on 10/22 at 06:02 AM | [Back to Top] | [Back to Main] - 12. · McCain has said that nuclear power is safe and if made PRESIDENT he would build 40 new nuclear power plants. As I SAID BEFORE TIME IS RUNNING OUT. I am completely against nuclear power BUT I'm not running for president. There is no safe or secure nuclear energy so obama must be against it.McCAIN is touting the main stables of his energy policy is nuclear power.McCains position is nuclear power is safe. This is OBSTINATELY WRONG. Where are we going to put the waste from these 40 or more plants that MaCAIN WANTS BUILT? WHO HAS REAL SOLUTIONS?WHO WILL REVERSE THE DAMAGE DONE in the last 8yrs by the BUSH ADMINISTRATION?? THANK YOU I RESPECT YOUR OPINION.
Comment by amphibia on 10/22 at 10:28 AM | [Back to Top] | [Back to Main] - 13. · So amphibia - what's your solution??
Drill for oil along the coastlines and in ANWR (which I support btw) or more coal production??
Wind power/solar power all help but just can't begin to supply the energy necessary for the U.S. ...
Or do we continue to hold ourselve hostage to the Middle East??
Comment by cheryl on 10/22 at 10:43 AM | [Back to Top] | [Back to Main] - 14. · Amphib... If you took the time to view the details from the McCain camp, McCain has said that he supports alternative energy sources and cites as examples wind, solar, tidal and nuclear. The problem is that we as a nation can't stop one form of energy today and start another tomorrow. It will take years to ramp up to the necessary levels to sever our ties to fossil fuels. McCain has said that drilling ANWR and off-shore will temporarily reduce our dependence on foreign oil (especially from sources that are considered unfriendly nations) until we can rely on our own, newly established sources.
As for nuclear power being "safe", technically, it is safe. Take for example our navy vessels. They've been running on nuclear power for years and all those Sailors out there seem to be doing just fine. The disposal of spent rods is another story. I agree that this is a major issue that I believe should be settled before we proceed with additional power plants. McCain has addressed this issue by saying that a program similar to that of the Navy's could be implemented to re-use these rods but I am not familiar enough with the process to speak intelligently about it.
Comment by Birdman on 10/22 at 12:04 PM | [Back to Top] | [Back to Main] - 15. · Whats the solution? More energy from the sun hits OUR PLANET in an hour than humans use in an entire year.WE can capture that energy for our home, business, and transportation needs. a massive transition to a solar energy economy will provide light and heat where we need it most, while strengthening the economy by supporting up to seven times more jobs than DIRTY FOSSIL FUELS. It's time for a national plan to mainstream solar and give the power to the people. A green grid energized by wind and solar can power homes and businesses, recharge car batteries and help pull the plug on unsafe and unsustainable energy sources like coal and nuclear power.Grid-based renewable power that is better for the environment and national security. Clean energy is an imperative not an "alternative" for AMERICA to sober up and get of oil.IT'S TIME FOR OUR NATION'S LEADERS to truly commit to a national recovery program to break AMERICA'S oil addiction. OUR COUNTRY and the WORLD deserve better. A transition to a clean energy economy will create millions of sustainable jobs, clean our air, protect water supplies, our forests, and our climate and help to build a safer and more secure WORLD for everyone
Comment by amphibia on 10/22 at 02:55 PM | [Back to Top] | [Back to Main] - 16. · Can't argue any of that. It all sounds great... BUT... As I indicated, there has to be an immediate solution for foreign oil dependence until an entirely new system, like solar, can be put in place. The McCain administration has indicated that they favor such a plan but, while in the development and set-up phase, we should be drilling ANWR and our off-shore regions to eliminate the need for middle eastern oil. Since a conversion to alternative fuels can't happen overnight, this only makes sense. You have to address both the near-term and long-term requirements.

everyone yelled, the ball got dropped and we kept filling up with cheap gas.
want to stop terrorism? then get off the oil hook and they won't have any $$ to fund anything besides a new saddle for their camel.
