Protesters to Attend Trooper 2 Victim’s Funeral

Protesters plan to picket the funeral of the paramedic killed in the Trooper 2 crash on Saturday, Oct. 4, at North Point High School, 2500 Davis Road in Waldorf, from 8 to 9:15 a.m.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office is aware of the protest.  “We will be present to ensure the public’s safety,” said spokesperson Kristen Timko.

  • 1. · I truely don't see how these people can call themselves Christians.

In addition the Patriot Guard Riders are scheduled too attend also as a counter demonstration.

  • 2. · I would urge anyone that can attend to attend, not only to pay your respects to Ms. Mallard and her family but to create as much of a barrier between the funeral and these assholes.

I understand the right to peacefully demonstrate, but this is NOT the time or place.

Very little boils my blood, and the thought of someone or some group demonstrating at this funeral is pissing me off.

  • 4. · Unbelievable! I can't begin to vocalize the rage that I feel about this group of lunatics. As someone who has mellowed with age, I almost feel compelled to crack a few heads but that would only cause further disruption for the victims in this case. My heart is heavy for Troopers Libby and Bunker, EMT Mallard and Ms. Younger and their families. As a MFRI trained firefighter and MIEMS trained medic, I have an unwavering gratitude for the services that these fine folks provided to the people of Maryland.

This is another poinent example of the difference between freedom of speech and knowing right from wrong. Can this be considered incitive behavior?

  • 5. · "Information on the Web site also indicates the protest at the paramedic Tanya Mallard's funeral is not personal."

Not personal? A funeral, like the birth of a child, or a wedding, is a family's most personal time. This group has no right to impose let alone demonstrate at a private and personal family event.

  • 6. · Birdman, you said what I wanted to say quite well...

Those that know me know that I don't really get angry and don't have a temper, but this...

  • 7. · CB- you are truly correct.

As human beings we need to pay respect to people in these times; what ever our beleif system may be.

It too sickens me that an event like this is used as a protest. These folks who died have nothing to do with what this group is protesting.

  • 8. · Hmmm... These "people" are from out of town, are they not? Anybody out there know where they are staying? I would like to make sure that they get a warm welcome. Anyone interested in forming a welcoming committee of sorts? Although, if they are engaged with the welcome wagon, they may get distracted and miss the funeral. That would be a shame, wouldn't it?

  • 9. · It appears that they will be protesting at South Potomac Church in White Plains after they finish up at North Point. I'd post a link, but I hate the idea of their hate-filled website getting any more traffic.

  • 10. · Yeah, TWD, I, too, checked out their website. What a bunch of WACKOS! Seems they're out of Topeka, Kansas (come on, tornado, please blow this bunch back to Oz) and really don't seem to have a whole lot of love for Maryland. Even going to the trouble of protesting at a Baltimore parade to welcome Olympic champions Michael Phelps, Katie Hoff, etc.

Some folks really do have waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much time on their hands! Maybe rather than using force which is what they want---point a finger and give 'em a really BIG horse laugh!!!! Those types can't fight laughter grin

  • 11. · Wouldn't they have to have some kind of permit?

I simply can't understand how someone's mind can be that perverted to even conceive that could inflict that kind of pain on someone.

    It is truly said.

  • 13. · The paper says Coffey knows of the protest and will be aware of the goings on- Im sure he will, he always does seem on top of things.

I think with the groups coming for the funeral- this puny bunch will be overwhelmed.

This group need to be treated as the KKK when they demonstrated in LaPlata, years ago- ignored.

I think they hate that more than anything- any conflicts just puts them in the news.

I suggest they take all the firetrucks and park it in front of them- so it blocks the view of the family and other mourners.

The drivers of the trucks just need to ignore them and anything they say- like the palace guards in England- make sure these folks are invisiable!

  • 14. · Ok- read some of the website- so why does this group want the downfall of Maryland- what do we do to call "down God's wrath"?

Reading this guys stuff- lets just say, its not written in terms, we the uniniatateded can understand= doesnt he want us to refom- and how can we if we dont understand?

Until we see why- how can we see the "light"?

...so why does this group want the downfall of Maryland- what do we do to call "down God's wrath"?

OK, my comments here are not to be taken as any sort of agreement with or tolerence of this group of loonies. I think I've made clear my stance on them, but...

Here's the answer to your question, BJ. Maryland is a bleeding-heart liberal state that welcomes those that this group of crazies finds most offensive. That's what makes Maryland a target of interest, if you will, for these psychopaths.

  • 20. · I would like to know what happened- did these low life really come and try to protest at these funeral and spread hatred in the name of their fanatical extremist religion?

Or did they not come. It was not in the WAPO.

  • 21. · BJ, I've heard from two separate sources that they did show up, but there were only a few of them and they weren't able to make the huge disruption that they had hoped to make.

  • 22. · If they were there, they must have been at the west intersection of Bunker Hill and 228. I came in from the east entrance and didn't see them. They were certainly not anywhere near the school or at the grave side.

Given the sheer number of EMS/fire/police personnel, family, commissioners, the governor, etc. maybe they thought better of it.

It was a very appropriate and tasteful celebration of the life of a hero, IMHO.

Interestingly, there was a man standing next to a vehicle in the southbound left turn lane of 301 at Smallwood. I don't know about the civilians, but he seemed to be telling occupants of all the emergency vehicles to go to hell. Maybe he was just upset about being inconvenienced or maybe he had a bigger beef.

  • 25. · I guess that shows the level of intellect that we are dealing with. Maybe they stopped to ask for directions and someone sent them there. wink

The really nice thing was how many people were standing on the side of the road (including the beltway and 95) saluting or with their hand over their heart.
