- 1. · Need more money for the Developer's and to buy and build more stadiums, ice rinks, and dance studios.

Comment by Poe on 05/09 at 07:27 AM | [Back to Top] | [Back to Main] - 3. · If you ask me this is because of the stadium, ice rink and all the other "amenities" so vital to this county!
I have to wonder - where's the outrage?!
Comment by cheryl on 05/09 at 08:59 AM | [Back to Top] | [Back to Main] - 4. · Look at the bright side. Everyone who is looking for ways to control growth should be happy about higher property taxes.
Comment by Iamangttia on 05/09 at 11:12 AM | [Back to Top] | [Back to Main] - 5. · I believe the Commissioner's objective for complete build out is coming to fruition. As evidenced by your pro-growth views this should please you immensely.
I also believe that with Maryland being one of the most highly taxed states in the country and Charles Çounty in lockstep with the State, we will see more and more people leaving the state.
Believe it or not, there really are better states than Maryland plus they're a helluva lot cheaper, cleaner and much better run than here!
Comment by cheryl on 05/09 at 11:29 AM | [Back to Top] | [Back to Main] - 6. · Well, I'm not pro-growth and I agree with everything else you said.
Comment by Iamangttia on 05/09 at 12:42 PM | [Back to Top] | [Back to Main] - 7. · Sorry Iam...Based on your statement #4, it just sounded to me as though you were. Again, I apologize for my misunderstanding.
I'm glad you agree! It's just so obvious what the County's "objective" is: Build-out - the sooner the better.

Property taxes are one of the many items that mortgage companies take into consideration when deciding if someone can qualify for a loan. On an equally realistic note, I really think that (except for the current market slump) the population explosion that is continually moving into Southern Maryland will be virtually impossible to stop. It would take a complete development shutdown and that has never happened anywhere to my knowledge. Perhaps running out of water is what it will take but, I'm sure there will have to be a real crisis before any department of State or Local government goes out on that limb. Lots of people who can move out of Maryland are doing so because of the points you mentioned but there are more coming into Southern Maryland because of the military and government jobs to offset it.

Comment by Sammy on 05/09 at 04:56 PM | [Back to Top] | [Back to Main] - 11. · Thanks Iam - I completely agree with you!
I agree that the influx of new residents into Southern Maryland, and Charles County in particular, cannot be stopped despite high housing costs and taxes.
I also believe it will take a water "crisis" before anything of substance or significance is implemented.
One thing's for sure - the elected officials (both State and local) can't say they weren't warned about the water situation!
Comment by cheryl on 05/09 at 05:06 PM | [Back to Top] | [Back to Main] - 12. · BJG, I also think these "cakes" are a waste of money and manpower.
With the Commissioners proposing a 9% tax increase, I would think frivolous things such as this would be eliminated - but then again I thought (and still think) the same about the stadium and ice rink!!
Go figure....
Comment by cheryl on 05/09 at 05:11 PM | [Back to Top] | [Back to Main] - 13. · Just a reminder - all the materials and labor for the cakes were donated by local companies...
Comment by CCCitizen on 05/09 at 05:33 PM | [Back to Top] | [Back to Main] - 14. · Arent they still trying to find donations for them CCC?
And I agree with Iam: as long as we hold out in the BRAC rollette game, nothing will stop our growing.

Comment by cheryl on 05/10 at 07:48 AM | [Back to Top] | [Back to Main] - 17. · TACKY to sell advertising on those cakes! Why not just write in big script exactly what they represent and let it go at that?
That was a nice gesture on the part of businesses to donate materials, and they should get some free advertising in a MdIndie article.
Comment by seahorse on 05/10 at 08:39 AM | [Back to Top] | [Back to Main] - 18. · I was thinking each should be decorated to represent some aspect of the county that should be highlighted. Good advertising, good promotion for tourism.
You could have a go fishing cake, a wildlife cake with herons and eagles, could have a "crab" Cake (promote our crabs and the crusty nation, a maryland flag cake, the garden club cake with native flowers, a duck pond cake, you get the idea.
They just are a little plain thats all.
