State’s $10M bond to assist guitar facility’s expansion

The Daily Record, by ROBBIE WHELAN

Who will be the next guitar hero? Try the state of Maryland.

Governor Martin O’Malley’s office announced Wednesday that the state will issue a $10 million bond to assist Paul Reed Smith Guitars, an Eastern Shore-based company that crafts the high-end electric guitars played by Carlos Santana and members of the rock bands Nickelback and Linkin Park.

  • 1. · Sounds like a good place to spend taxpayer's money. No one would expect a company that makes such fine guitars that are the envy of the best rock bands to be able to stay in business without a $10 million bond in their favor. Just think how much more O'Malley would have been willing to spend if this company only made mediocre guitars.

  • 2. · You're kidding, right? Why is time, effort and money being spent for a private business expansion?

You would think that it's O'Malley's money...oh that's right, most people in MD say goodbye to their money in taxes and expect the government to do the best thing for the people without question...only complaints and more government oversight to cure all government ills.

    Why are people so uninvolved?

  • 3. · Let me see if I understand this, our State Govt is going to float a bond issue to support a private business, correct ? I guess some of my state tax dollars will be used to service the interest on these bonds ? Gosh, the Governor must have been studying the Operations Manual of the Charles County Commissioners ! If they can build a ball park and buy an ice rink, or build a highway with local taxper $, then I guess the Governor thougt he might as well use his share of my taxes to do basically the same thing ! I need to go sit down and figure out a way to get either the county or the state to float some bonds to support my next business idea !!

  • 4. · Just another reason why Maryland ranks #4, even higher than California (#6) on the Tax Foundation's annual ranking for State-Local Tax Burden for 2008.

BTW, Alaska is #50 and New Jersey is #1

And to think that so much of OUR money is being spent for crap like this!

Just fasten your seat belts, because I heard that O'Malley wants to raise State Income Taxes next year - Hey, gotta go for that #1 spot! gulp
