Taxpayers pay for rep’s big screen TVs
A leased Cadillac: $557 a month.
Chinese food for 230 colleagues: $1,425.
A 46-inch Sony flat-screen television: $2,805.
Having taxpayers foot the bill: priceless
Members of Congress get between $1.3 million and $1.63 million per year to run their offices. Much of the money goes to staff salaries and rent for district offices. Some of it does not.

- 1 · I'm sure glad the new congressional Leader's are cleaning up this mess. Business as usual, greedy elite running amuck.

The pickings are so lean the story has to throw in the fact that a member of Congress actually bought (oh my God!) some hard drives and a laptop! Since when did a member of Congress buying office equipment for his office out of his office budget become a story?
As for the big screen TVs, I can say from personal experience that they are used significantly for video teleconferencing. Let's do a comparison and see if the rise in VTC technology in the House has reduced travel expenses any. If it has, is it really fair to isolate the cost of the purchase of flat screen TVs and ignore the savings in reduced travel that would be necessary for face to face meetings?
