The Bay Net - Reader’s Letter: Questions That Need to be Answered

By The Bay Net user ‘Escape’

What would happen if the United States shut down for a day? When I say shut down I mean, no electric, no working, no driving, no spending money whatsoever.

Can anyone tell me what type of impact this would have on the United States? Would a GAS OUT help? Would it help to lower gas prices? How about no electric for a day, or no one go work for a day!

[...]
So as I stand there pumping gas and paying almost 50.00 to fill up a 13 to 14 gallon tank I grieve terribly wondering how much more it will go up. My second job soon won’t even pay to put gas in my vehicle. When that happens then I will be forced to tap into my money I allocate for bills and bills only.
[...]
People of America need to wake up and we need to start making some changes or things are going to get worse then they are right now. And if we can get things rolling right here in MD first then maybe the rest will follow suit.

  • 1. · this is quite like my answer to a post yesterday.

The "new" should be incorporating much of the good of the "old" to get ahead.

Remember we used to live near we work- we carpooled, we rode busses or trains to other city's to visit. We packed our lunch for our trips.

If we all lived near where we worked, it woild save millions in gasoline and millions of dollars, quit putting your money in BIG OILS pocket.

Change part of yard to your own "victory garden". Come home from work walking thru your garden and pick what you are going to eat for dinner. If you have kids, introducings gardening in the right way, makes them eager to play in the garden. By the way, its good for your land and for absorbing rain water when we get it, much better than a green lawn.

And yep- we do not need a tv in every room with accompanying vcr/dvd/tivo/...just plugged in these apppliances use electricity, they are called ghost users. A huge amount of your killowatts go to ghost usage. Unplug them, get rid og them and get together with your family again- argueing over which show to watch is a good way to learn how to compromise.

During the recession "cacooning" was in- something my family was already doing cause we didnt have money.

We just need to go back for the new "new".
