  • 2 · One of the most efective ways for people to get personly involved in a lifestyle that will avoid actions that harm our rivers and streams is to get them down to the shoreline. At the wade-in people will come to the river and learn about pollutants that effect that river and learn how they can do things in their own homes and communities that will help the health of the rivers...tell me how that is a prank?
We will have displays as well as the wade-in and for good measure we will have delicious deserts!

  • 4 · CAD, I think BJG was being supportive and referring to perhaps wearing a hazmat suit (example of a humorous prank) to get the point across about the health of our waters...

  • 5 · yep CAD, Im supportive of all efforts to get people to notice as long as it is not harmful to people or the water.

Humor, harmless pranks that could shame some politicans or those in power, sandwich board signs that are reproductions of what we have had by our stream for over a year (at least we have signs now, thank you)- signs all along the beach saying no wading, a release of baby ruths?/

I dont know- harmless but eyecatching eenough to get people to notice.

  • 6 · Dont want to put a damper on things but have you heard or seen the sewage spills around here-
there was a river of smelly goo traveling down a hill towards somebody's house in Port Tobacco yesterday- they were valiantly tryingto sweep it away from their doors- I think they really needed some ssand bags.

Course old lucky 13 was spewing for days- the first day was quite fragrant and lovely to look at.

And all this is going in the streams and rivers.

Course they tell us not to worry, its not harmful as it is very diluted- however if I can identify peices and can gag on the smell- I think we do need to worry.

PS I had to hose off the truck after going thru it. Phew

  • 7 · I've always wondered about that Mattawoman Sewage Treatment Plant, and heard it was built in a flood plain. It overflows so much when it rains I have to believe what I heard is true. Who in the heck would build a treatment plant in a flood plain?

  • 8 · A river of goo? As far as Port Tobacco - It couldn't have been coming from the sewage plant. Do they know where it was coming from? I would really like to follow up on that - could you have them call me? 301-934-1716

  • 9 · Will there be tetnus shots available after the Wade In? No disrespect intended for anyone but most of my friends with Boats and Jet Skis stayed out of the Port Tobacco because it constantly had some advisary and urged everyone to stay out of it.

  • 10 · Do to the influence of the Potomac , Chapel Pt State park beach area tests clean almost every time. The real problem occurs after a heavy rain following a drought when the bacteria washes off the land into the water.
If anyone wants to see the water test results log on to http://www.porttobaccoriver.org

  • 12 · CAD, you're right about the Port Tobacco River being "washed" by the Potomac. I have friends who swim there (down the beach to the left around the bend), and live to tell about it grin
