Where are the real accomplishments?

Maryland Independent - LTE,

A recent letter suggested that one should vote for the incumbent for District 1 commissioner apparently because he is descended from several fine old Southern Maryland families.

I have lived in Southern Maryland long enough to know many members of the named families and most are exceptional individuals both in terms of their citizenship, character and perception by others in the community.

Many of these individuals know the sitting commissioner, Sam Graves, all too well and have told me that, even though related, they are not voting for him because of his lackluster record.

I do hope that all of us will carefully examine the record of all the sitting commissioners and the numerous failures and broken promises when we go to the polls, and that we will not view public office as an entitlement based on one’s birth.

  • 2. · Excellent letter and to have two more followed up today from more family members. I am glad his family and friends love him and support him. Everyone should be so blessed. I am glad my family and friends love me too but that does not make me or anyone else qualified to run county government.

  • 7. · According to articles in the Independent prior to the last election, his record of public service with the sheriff's department ended under a cloud of three sexual harassment complaints.

    The women of Charles County need to finally send a message about this type of behavior.

  • 8. · Overheard at last night’s SMECO meeting at the baseball stadium; Murray Levy telling people that Sam Graves was going to lose in the primary. He said this while Graves was just a few feet away within earshot.
